About the Amphorae

Amphorae vessels are a type of bottle or jar made from terracotta and were the ancients way of preserving and protecting its contents. The terracotta is the ideal material for preserving the precious oil from the harvest by protecting it from light and heat.

The limited edition Ceramic “amphorae” were created by the company, Ceramiche Liberati, designed by Atelier 790 especially for Diodoros. Each bottle alone is in itself a collectors piece. The Craftsmanship is evident in each bottle—carefully made by the hands of skilled artisans with the highest quality materials.

To complete each single bottle, more than 20 steps are required and all done by these expert craftsmen—including the crafting and multiple times in the kiln; each step must be carried out with meticulous attention.

It starts with the creation of the “madre” or mother, the initial model. Then the liquified “argilla bianca”, white clay, is poured into the mother cast, air dried, then further shaped by hand on the lathe. At which point it is ready for the kiln and completes the transformation into “terracotta”.

After the first bake the amphorae is ready for the two tone glaze—transforming again from terracotta into ceramic. Finally, the Diodoros name is carefully applied to the ceramic bottle by a digital fire branding technique, completing the third time in the kiln.

The craft put into these bottles is a true labor of love—from inside to outside.
